Miny Waln and Don Moyle
Here is the story as told by my grandfather on the back of this picture. Don Moyle and Cecil Allen flew the Pacific in 1927 from Japan to the US for a $25,000.00 prize from a Seattle newspaper. They run into strong headwinds and were short on fuel so they land on an island and stayed for 7 days waithing for tailwinds to carry them to Alaska. (No radio) The world thought they were goners but they made it to Alaska. No gas there but methanol. Don knew how to convert to alcohol and they flew to Seattle and still received the 25 grand. I was in Syracuse (NY) at the time it took place and the newspapers ran headlines every day while they were missing. After the flight his ex wife and others right away started suing him for money he supposedly owed them. (Alot of money in 1927 huh?) Don ended up broke but Allen apparently enjoyed his one half of the pot. Don never won many races but he was a good pilot. Signed Miny
